Goodbye 100s for a while!

Wow, what a very pleasant surprise weather-wise.  Yesterday the temperature got to 108 although to me it didn't feel any worse than the day before THAT when the temperature got to 101.  Their forecast for today was 102 before a little cool front was going to hit.  Cool fronts at this time of year are certainly rare!  Anyway, when we woke up this morning, the sky was cloudy and looked like rain was on the way.   It had already cooled off outside.  At about 8:30am it started raining and it's been two hours now and it is still drizzling out there and the wind feels nice and cool, almost cold.  For this last day of June, we have been given a real treat!!  It's supposed to be at least 10 degrees cooler the rest of this week (so highs in the low 90s and lows in the upper 60s).  We will definitely relish this little respite.  Those temperatures over 100 are just a little too much.

Over the MOON!!!

Guillermo and I are over the moon excited about.....

Rebeca and Jason are going to have a baby!!!!   We are going to be grandparents!!!!

Here's how it all played out for us.
Back in May, Rebeca told us a package was on its way with something for both of us for Mother's Day.  When the package arrived about a week before Mother's Day, we called Rebeca to tell her it had arrived.  She asked if we wanted to go ahead and open it and we said, "no, we'd wait for Mother's Day".  We've all always been the kind where when we have a present ready to give someone, we just want to give it to them so they can open it NOW!!  As much as we wanted to open it right then and there, we waited.
On the day before Mother's Day, we got a chat from Rebeca early in the morning (now THAT should have been a sign!) asking if we'd like to do a video chat.  But still, we thought this was just because of Mother's Day.  So, we get her on video chat and she says we should just go ahead and open our presents.  So, we get the box and place it in front of the computer and pull out two little packages that felt like picture frames.  We said, "Hmmm, wonder what THESE could be!", knowing full well by how they felt that they were picture frames.  Rebeca is sitting there watching us as we tear off the wrapping paper.  I see the words, Grandma and me, and Guillermo sees the words, Grandpa and me on each of our frames.  My first thought was that these were frames for some time in the distant future but then we looked at Rebeca a little confused and by the way she was acting, it made us ask, "Rebeca are you pregnant???" and she said, "Yup!!!"

Oh wow.  You talk about excited.  We just yelled Oh My God, and laughed and smiled and got tears in our eyes and simply could not contain the happiness about the news we had just heard.  Then she said open the other box and when we did, this is what we found in it:
It's a precious little wooden cutout that counts off the number of days left until the baby is born.  So, we are so thrilled and still full of wonder and awe about the whole thing!  Wow!!

Happy Father's Day!

It was a nice Father's Day today.  We had lunch at a new restaurant in town called Speisen.  Their specialty is Austrian food and we were very impressed with the food we ordered today.  So, we had a good meal with a good dessert.  Then, in the evening, we talked with Rebeca by phone before some neighbors came over to watch the Spurs game with us.  We chatted a little bit with Fernando during the Spurs game, so he also sent his Father's Day wishes.  The Spurs win later that evening was just the icing on the cake to a very nice day!!

visitors and yet more rain!

Sure is nice hearing thunder so frequently and we got a little bit of rain today.  Again.  It looked like it was raining harder all around us, but not so much rain where we are.

We've had house guests the past two days.  Eugene, Muriel and Rita came on Monday and left today.  Yesterday, on Tuesday, we visited the Riverwalk with them and had lunch along the river.  As hot as the day was, it felt quite nice in the breeze along the river.

If you look close, you can see them sitting between a red and blue umbrella.

Walking along the river after lunch at Casa Rio - and then we stopped to get some ice cream!

Best Spring ever

Wow, it is raining AGAIN!!  We have really had a great Spring this year.  The rains seemed to come at good intervals - what we always felt we would order if you could order rain:  soft rain once a week.  It seems like it has kind of been that way, except for at the end of May there when there was flooding around the city.

Guillermo mowed the grass this morning and just as he finished it started raining on him - not hard but a good soft rain so that he was able to clean up the mower a little and almost as soon as he put it away, it started raining a little harder.

Tonight is Game 2 of the NBA finals - Spurs against the Miami Heat.  We are looking forward to watching it with our friends Joe and Sharon and Barbara and Mike at our house!

I have been spending my days trying to figure out the best way to save this blog.  It looks like blogspot will make a book for you so maybe that will be the way to go.  Starting with any random year - I started with 2010 - has shown me that it won't be all that easy.  I have gone through the entire year - deleting unnecessary posts and pictures and that took a LONG time!!  Now I am going through the entire year again to double check.  When checking on the price of the book - for 2010 - so far the book is approximately $150.  Gulp.....  not sure about that......

Happy Birthday to Guillermo!

Happy Birthday to Guillermo today!  We've had a nice day so far.  We walked around the neighborhood this morning at around 8:15am - the weather was sunny and cool with it changing to cloudy and cool by the time we got home.  Which was nice!

Then we had Guillermo's choice breakfast of 2 cookies, a cup of coffee, strawberries and raspberries.  A deviation of our usual breakfasts but hey, it's his birthday and he can have whatever he wants for breakfast!!!  After breakfast, we went shopping at Costco and by the time we got home it looked like storms were coming.  The storms did come and it has been cloudy and very cool since then which has made this day extra wonderful.

Before we had lunch, I made Guillermo his annual peach pie and later on in the afternoon we enjoyed a nice big slice of it.  Later this evening, we are going to a new restaurant on our side of town called Viola's Ventanas.  We haven't been there yet, but it looks like it has a nice outdoor patio so hopefully we can find a few dry tables and chairs by the time we go at dinnertime.  John and Angie are going to join us so we look forward to the evening!

Deer visits

Lately the deer have been hanging around in back of our house.  We like that.  It's nice seeing them out there.  They are quite close and yesterday they were just sitting in the grass.  Guillermo even went out in the yard and climbed up on the blocks to refill the bird feeder and all those deer did was keep an eye on him.  They watched him the entire time but they never even moved.  Here's a picture of them hanging around back there.

On Friday last week, we noticed some symbols painted on the street in front of our house.  Those same symbols were painted in front of a few other houses also.  One was red and the other was yellow.  We wondered if red meant electric and yellow gas and what was going to be done.  Well, today we possibly found out.  We got a knock on the door and it was the people from  AT & T saying they needed to go in our back yard to dig up a phone box because they were going to be installing U-Verse in our neighborhood.  Oh well, so far they haven't wrecked anything except for the big hole in the back yard.  At least, so far, they haven't needed to dig under any garden or anything we planted.  And they said they would replace our grass when they are done, so that's good.
And Guillermo hasn't had anymore trouble with the raccoons and even though the squirrels continue to make attempts, it is obvious that it is too hard and too much trouble for them to get to the bird seed.  So, maybe just maybe Guillermo won!!!!
