Another good trip to Tucson!
Guillermo and I left on April 18th and drove as far as Mesilla, NM, which is our usual. By the time we get there, we are usually pretty tired of driving. It takes us a good 9 or 10 hours to get that far.
The wildflowers were beautiful as we drove through the Hill Country. These scenes looked SO much better in real life.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn there in Mesilla, making sure we reserved a room AWAY from the highway side. At check in, I asked the guy for an upgrade which he was happy to give us. Turns out, that although the room was WAY nicer than the one I reserved, it had a problem. We came to realize that every 10 or so minutes we would hear what sounded like motorcycles down in the parking lot revving up their engines. It was actually their ac/heating unit which apparently was on top of our room. Another sleepless night in this hotel (last year we got a room facing the highway which was just as bad). Ok, the place gets one more chance and then that's it. We look for a different place.
The next morning, tired, we had a nice breakfast at least and then were on our way. We still didn't get it right about time zone changes and were an hour early to meet Roy in Benson so we figured we just drive around and see places we always wish we had the time to visit. The ONE place we picked, Apple Annies Orchard, was CLOSED until the summer. Oh well. By then it was getting close to time to see Roy so we drove on in to Benson. Roy is usually early to meet us and he was so this day so that was good. We had a nice lunch with him.
Then we drove into Tucson, got to Rebeca's house while they were still out having lunch so we were able to unpack everything before they got home. Scotty ran to the front door when they got home and he got millions of kisses from both of us!
Visiting our favorite nursery that first Saturday - Mesquite Valley Growers
Then that evening it was time to decorate eggs for Easter!
Now it's Easter morning! He's already put some of his new Legos together!
Fun with his new Bubble Gun
With his car bunny.
Watching Scotty at soccer practice
On Tuesday we ate breakfast at IHOP then took Scotty to get his haircut, then went to the library.
Waiting for Story time at the library.
That afternoon the sky turned cloudy and it looked like it was going to rain. Perfect time to take a walk up the wash. Scotty took his bucket and kept finding these little green beads in the creek bed. It was like looking for Easter eggs!
Such a nice walk we had. The sky was threatening, we heard a few claps of thunder and the wind was nice and cool.
Messing with abuelito
Rebeca has some seriously beautiful roses in her yard.
On Wednesday we picked up Irene from her house and took her to lunch.
There has never been a trip to Tucson without a visit to Sweet Tomatoes - Scotty's favorite restaurant.
After Rebeca heard about our walk in the wash, she wanted to take a walk out there also and see all the flowers.
On Thursday, we packed up a few clothes and headed to Loews Ventana Canyon Resort to spend one night. But before getting there, we stopped at the other usual thing we do in Tucson - have lunch at the food court in Costco.
We really should have taken more pictures of our room. House is more like it. When we were checking in, I just expected to be given the room that I had reserved - a room with a king bed. But as we checked in, the lady told me that she was going to upgrade us. I figured it couldn't be any worse than the upgrade we got at the Hampton Inn!
Oh my God. When we walked in the door, we were blown away. We could not BELIEVE how big the place was. From the front door was a foyer, than that led to a living room, another room that had a nice big desk, then off the side of that was ANOTHER living room, then next to that was a HUGE table with probably 10 chairs around it. Then came a sort-of kitchen, which was surprising considering how fantastic everything else was. Then we asked ourselves, "but where's the bedroom???" So we walked clear back to the other side and there was this fantastic huge bedroom. Going in further, we saw the bathroom that was so big - it was the size of a usual-sized hotel room itself. This bathroom even had a TV on the bathroom mirror. Then we checked the balcony - or balconies. There must have been at least 4 of them. We found another bathroom also. Then we walked outside and saw a massive patio with our very own spa.
We have no idea why we got such an incredible upgrade for the price of a regular room but whatever the reason was, we were so grateful to be able to spend a night in such luxury. We called Rebeca and told her she and Jason have GOT to come later that evening to see the place. They did and were blown away also. Rebeca got in the hot tub and they both tried to figure out how they could move couches together to also spend the night there. But of course they ended up not staying, although they REALLY REALLY wanted to.

It's too bright in the background to see well, but that's the city of Tucson back there. Here he is on the balcony of the living room.
This entire area with the hot tub was private to our room.
Breakfast the next morning in the hotel.
After breakfast we took a walk to the waterfall that they have there on the premises.
And of course we just love the pool there!

This pool was too cold to go into.
On Saturday we got to watch one of Scotty's soccer games!
Hill Country views on our drive back home. We spent the night in Van Horn and had a very nice dinner at the El Capitan hotel.
