Mom and I went to the Quarry to have lunch, driving up Highway 281 even though it was all over the news that 281 was closed, before the exit we needed, due to flooding. And sure enough, as we approached the Hildebrand exit, traffic is stopped and everyone was being forced off the expressway at that point. We finally get out of that mess and then drive around through the Olmos Park neighborhood trying to make our way over to the Quarry through the streets. We passed by the Olmos Golf Course which was a mess and had obviously been well under water. Even the bus stop bench along the street was totally covered with debris. Then we drove through a neighborhood and in the lowest part of the neighborhood we saw that some homes had flooded - all their belongings out in the yards. It was a sad sight.
At the Quarry, Mom and I ate at the Hofbrau Restaurant which was somewhat of a disappointment although our food was good. Then afterwards we drove to as close as we could to see the flood waters along Basse Road under 281. This was the scene two days after the actual rain event. We just can't imagine how it must have looked on the actual day.
Passing that red light would have taken you on the road into Olmos Park.
That is 281 in the background.
They were using machines like plows trying to move the water towards the drainage ditches.
You can't see it here, but there were a lot of people on the banks here looking at the waters.
Well, just a video I made while standing out there...
