Well, after having to miss her first appointment for the vaccine shot back in January, Mom finally got her first dose yesterday. Things went smoothly at the Cisneros Senior Center where they were giving the shots.

Trip to San Saba
The second trip of our Spring Break this year was to another Airbnb in San Saba, Texas. This place sounded so promising but was a little disappointing. The house itself was amazing. We all agreed that if the house could just be moved to a different area that had more places to hike or visit, then we'd probably never want to leave. As it was, we were limited in where we could walk. There was lots of open land around the house, but it's not for walking around on. The house sits on a working ranch and hunting lease. We realized why we needed to stick close to the house when we took a short walk away from the house and saw a hunting blind and then further on a target for practice. Oh well. There was a nice pond in front of the house where we saw lots of turtles, several ducks and also several snakes in a low hanging tree. So that was exciting! The snakes would slither into the water when we would get a little too close for their comfort. But then we would leave, and soon they would get back up on the branches. So we saw those snakes a lot. We loved the house - it was very comfortable for two families (it would even work with 3 families). We wanted for nothing in that house. But the chances of renting that house again are slim to none. We did venture out our second day there to see some parks in San Saba. Those parks were just ok. The most exciting thing though was going to see the wedding tree. It's a huge tree! And there was a geo cache next to it! That cache was fun because inside was more than just a log to sign. It had little trinkets. We just looked at the little trinkets since we had nothing to trade. And then we just closed the cache back up and hung it up again.

Venturing into a few stores
It is March 9th and our lousy governor has declared that starting tomorrow masks are no longer mandatory and that absolutely everything can open back up. He truly is an idiot.
So, we thought if we're ever going to go into any stores, maybe today would be the best time. So Guillermo went to Lowes and Costco and I went into Target and slipped into HEB for two items I already knew I wasn't able to get curbside.
Guillermo said both the stores he went to were ok. Target for me was nice - it was nice to once again be able to browse the aisles. And to see, that yes, there are clorox wipes, they just aren't offering them on Target Driveup. One of the many good things about doing Driveup and Curbside is that there is no impulse buying. In HEB, the only good thing was being able to see in person all the meal simples that I usually order curbside. Other than that, I was SOOO glad my shopping had already been done for me! I got the two items I needed, left the store and headed over to curbside to pick up my order.
I will take curbside over going in any day. We are happy with the quality of everything they choose for us and if there ever is a time that they pick something out of date (happened once in the whole last year), they are quick to issue a refund and give a replacement. It is a such a relief to know that we don't have to deal with inconsiderate people who refuse to wear masks or people who cough or sneeze around you. We are so grateful to have such a good curbside at our grocery store. Target is the one store that I will go back in to and slowly browse around but HEB, I will only go in there if I absolutely can't get it on curbside.
Coastal Fun
It's spring break time and we planned a couple of trips along with Fernando and family. First was a trip to the coast.
March 5th - We picked Leo up early Friday morning since Fernando and Eva had appointments that morning to get their first dose of the Covid vaccine. Leo spent that night with us.
March 6th - This morning, Fernando and Eva came by to pick us all up. We loaded up their car and drove the almost 4 hour trip to Matagorda, Tx. We found our Airbnb easily and settled in to that cute front row beach house.
We just arrived. How exciting!
First thing we did was head to the beach shortly after arriving. Thing was, it was quite cold and windy! But no matter, we all bundled up and went to the beach. Leo did some splashing around in the waves, but not too much so he wouldn't get very wet with that cold weather.
On this trip, we also (finally!) did searches for hidden geo caches. Many years ago, I joined the geo cache thing but never actually did anything with it because I really didn't understand it at all. So I gave up. Then a few years ago, I thought I'd give it a try again, but turned out I couldn't access my account. So I just gave up again. But now that Scotty and Leo were getting a little older, it seemed like a good time to check into it again and this time actually DO something about getting into my account and then actually looking for a cache. So a few weeks ago, after a small hassle, I ended up having to create a new email to get back into Geo Cache. Browsing the app showed that there were several caches around our neighborhood but once again, going out to look for them just didn't happen. It seemed they were all too "difficult" - meaning where would I park. But finally, when we got to the coast and noticed there were a few caches around the beach house, it felt like the right place to actually get out and do some hunting.
The first cache we checked out was around a pier and we just couldn't find it. The second cache was by a sign near an RV park and we couldn't find that one either! So, we gave up for that day.
March 7th - This morning, we all went back to the beach. It was still cold and quite windy. After the beach, we decided to look for the cache by the RV park sign again. I had checked the cache online for hints and found that some people had posted some pictures - not of where it's actually hidden but suggestions about what to look for. Guillermo was the one who actually found it! It was Guillermo who finally found the one at the pier and he was the one to find the third one by another RV park sign. So, that evening we took Leo back out and we helped him find the cache by the first RV park sign. He was so excited to finally find one! But it seemed to be getting colder and windier so we didn't look for any more that afternoon.
March 8th - Fernando and family went back to the beach and Guillermo and I took a walk on the jetty. It was a MUCH nicer day today. Still a little windy but the wind felt a lot warmer. That was so nice.
Fernando and Leo finally found the cache by the pier when they came back from the beach. As we were leaving to go home, we stopped at the 2nd RV park sign and helped Leo find that cache also.
Photos before leaving.
