This morning we had our last breakfast together at the Balboa Inn, then packed up the car and drove Fernando and Eva to the airport. While they were checking in, Guillermo decided to run to the grocery store that SEEMED to be nearby. It took him a lot longer than we thought it would, but fortunately, he got back before Fernando and Eva had to go through security. When Guillermo got back, he said that he started OUT walking, but when we saw that the store was a lot farther than it at first glance looks, he decided to get the car and drive there instead. He got to the store just fine, and when he was leaving, he said he does not know how a van that was pulling out of a parking spot didn't hit him. He was just waiting for the crunch of metal, that's how close he came to getting hit. The van fortunately saw Guillermo at the very last second and slammed on its brakes. Well, after going through that, he saw there was no way to make a left turn out of the parking lot back to the airport, so he had to make a right and go for quite a distance before he could turn around. Meanwhile, we at the airport were becoming concerned that Guillermo wouldn't get back before Fernando and Eva had to go through security. We even walked outside to see if we could see him coming and happily for all of us, almost right as we walked outside, that's when Guillermo came up the steps to the airport entrance. Whew!!!
We saw Eva and Fernando through security, waved one final goodbye wave to them and then got back in our car and started the drive back to Boquete. We stopped one time in Santiago to get an ice cream at McDonalds and continued driving. The weather was good again, and the roads were clear.
In David, we stopped at the big supermarket and picked up several things that aren't available in Boquete. Right after getting back on the road, we could see in the distance that it was dark in the direction of Boquete and sure enough, pretty soon we were in some heavy rain. It rained almost all the way to Boquete, but in Boquete the rain had already gone through so the roads were already dry there.
Yes, it was a great visit with Fernando and Eva in Panama City. We of course were sad to see them go, but are so grateful that we were able to spend a little time with them.
