Salzburg, Mirli, Bruno, Hans and Fusch

On June 23rd, we left Risvattnet.  We made the long drive back to Stockholm - it's about 9 hours from Risvattnet.  We stopped again, as we did on the way TO Risvattnet,  to get a hamburger/fish burger at the Max in Sundsvall.  We got a hotel close to Stockholm's airport and the very next day, we flew to Salzburg.

June 24th - By now we've gotten to know Arlanda airport (Terminal 5) pretty well, but that didn't help at all with trying to return our rental car in the morning.  We got all turned around on the highway coming from our hotel and when we found the road back into the airport we decided to drop Rebeca off at the airport so that she could wait there with our luggage.  We were more familiar with getting to the rental car place from the airport so it was much easier to find it that way.  After dropping off our car, we hurried back to the airport because time was getting a little tight.  It took a few minutes to find Rebeca in that crowded terminal!  We checked ourselves in, stood in that LOOOONG line to check in our bags and then got to our gate with not too much time to spare at all.

We had a 5 hour layover in Vienna, so we decided to take a bus into town to see what we could see of Vienna.  We walked from where the bus let us off to a little cafe for lunch where we had the first of many Wiener Schnitzels on this trip.

Looking forward to having Wiener Schnitzel in Wien (Vienna)!!

After lunch, we walked to the big cathedral of Vienna.

We were doing all this walking around in Vienna with our carry-ons.  And they were ALL heavy since we packed our heaviest stuff in them so that our suitcases would make the weight limit.  We tried to give each other breaks with bags by taking turns carrying various ones.  Here Rebeca is carrying one of the worst bags!  It doesn't look bad, but it was heavy all right.

Rebeca and Guillermo decided to climb the tower to the church and this was their view from the top.
I stayed in a cafe by the church (eating delicious ice cream) so that they could do the climb without the weight of the carry-ons.  The weather was actually quite hot!

We were glad we took the time to go into Vienna, it was very interesting.

When we arrived in Salzburg, we saw a lady taking pictures of what seemed like US when we were going out of the terminal and you can just imagine our surprise and shock when we realized that it was my AUNT MIRLI!!  We had NO idea she'd be there to greet us because the plan was that we would call her from our hotel when we arrived.  But what a lovely surprise that was and we all just hugged and laughed and were happy to be together.

Amazingly enough, our luggage fit in Mirli's car and she drove us to our little pension.  It was a very nice place in Wals, Austria Gaestehaus Heidi- a place we picked since it was close to the airport and tomorrow we have to pick up a rental car.  We got settled in, made plans with Mirli to meet tomorrow (we're driving to Fusch tomorrow!) and then Mirli drove back home.  This little guest house is in a regular neighborhood and we tried walking around looking for a restaurant or a grocery store to buy something to eat.  We didn't find anything so we came back to the guest house and asked the people there and they recommended a nearby restaurant in a direction we hadn't gone.  So, we walked over there and found the cutest restaurant setting - the Gasthof GrĂ¼nauer Hof - so we were happy.  EXCELLENT food at this hotel's restaurant.  I had a Wiener Schnitzel - actually the best one on this trip, Rebeca had Zwiebelrostbraten and Guillermo had Rindsgulasch.  Then we walked back to our place, just marveling at how beautiful the scenery was.  We forgot to take our cameras, so we are depending on Rebeca to get us some pictures.
Here we are having breakfast the following morning.

June 25th - Mirli met us at our hotel at 9am and we drove with her to Saalfelden to visit with Uncle Bruno.  Driving from Salzburg, through Germany was such a beautiful drive.  Here we are stopping for a few minutes along the way.
Not sure what they were looking at on the car here.

Visiting with Uncle Bruno at his house in Saalfelden, Austria

Our Uncle/Great-Uncle

Inside Uncle Bruno's house

Standing across the street from a restaurant we ate at for lunch.

After visiting with Uncle Bruno, it was on to Fusch.  We stopped at Uncle Hans's house and visited with him and Aunt Pauline.  We had a great cake that Aunt Pauline made and coffee and tea and sat around trying our best to communicate with everyone.

From Uncle Hans's house, we went to our hotel, the Pension Oberreiter and checked in.  This was the hotel.

Then we walked from the hotel to the cemetery where family is buried.  Along the way we met someone that  Mirli knew.

We really liked our stay at the Oberreiter and our rooms were nice and comfortable.  That evening we had dinner at the Lampenhausl hotel.
