Quite an exciting day

Last morning with Andrew for a while!  He is such a gracious host and we sure enjoyed his hospitality.  From getting to sleep in his brand new bed, which was totally comfortable, to him taking the time this morning to help us get to the train station in downtown Basel and see us off.  Sure, we could have done it ourselves, but how much more relaxing it was to have someone with us who knew EXACTLY what to do and where to go.  And besides, it gave us a chance to spend an extra hour or two with him so that in itself was the best part.  We waved bye as the train pulled out - making our 3 night visit over and actually it seemed to go way too fast.  Well, we'll be by to see him again in August so it's not TOTALLY over.

The train ride through the Swiss countryside was beautiful with all the scenic hills, mountains, church steeples,   and small villages that dotted the hillsides.  We got off the train at the Zurich airport and flew from there to Berlin and then caught another plane to take us on to Stockholm.

At the Stockholm airport, we caught a bus that took us to the central station in downtown Stockholm and from there caught a taxi to our hotel - the Hilton Slussen which is right on a river.  Our room doesn't face the river, but it's right there if we want to walk outside to it.  We put our stuff away in our room and then went out to see if we could pick up a little something to eat at the nearby grocery store.  We didn't find much there, so we decided we'd stop at some little restaurant to pick up a sandwich.  We saw a Subway in the distance and that appealed to us so we walked in that direction.  But before we went into the Subway, we decided to walk up a different street to see what restaurants were along that street and we were so surprised to find ourselves in the same area as where we had stayed before with Fernando and Eva.  We were so happy to recognize the area!  So, then we walked back to the Subway, got our sandwiches and decided to eat them on the outside of an open air bar along the river where a BUNCH of people were watching the soccer game between Sweden and England.  They had TVs set up in such a way that even if you weren't in the bar itself, you could still see really well from the sidewalk.  So, we stood there, ate our sandwiches and cheered with everyone else when Sweden scored their second goal.  It was so exciting to be laughing and cheering and pumping our fists along with everyone else!  Sadly, it was the last goal Sweden was going to make and England scored one more so England ended up winning.

The weird thing is that we were out there along the river at around 11pm and the sky looked like it was only 8 or 8:30 at night.  So, even though it FELT like it was early evening, it was really quite late!  I am doing this blog at midnight and there is still a faint light in the sky.  It looks like it could be 9pm.
