Last day in Spain for a while

Monday, June 11, was our last full day here near El Campello, Spain.  We spent the morning washing clothes and taking care of the grass and plants, and in the afternoon, we took the tram to Alicante so that we could take care of our internet.

Our plan was to get off the tram and go to our favorite restaurant - Katagorri - but it was closed.  Which turned out to be an ok thing because we walked around looking for another place to eat, which gave us a chance to be out and about in Alicante a little bit.  There is no shortage of places to eat in Alicante so every few feet we'd come across another tempting place to eat.  The restaurant we finally picked was an excellent choice - it had the food and ambience of a perfect Spanish eatery.  Guillermo had a steak and fries and I ordered from the menu, which came with a mixed salad, then fried calamari, then paella and then dessert.  Guillermo had a beer and I had a sangria.  It was all really good!

From the restaurant, we walked across town to Movistar but when we got there, we saw the store was still closed.  We just had to wait 30 minutes for it to open, though.  We wanted to talk with Stephanie because she is the one who has been so nice to us and really helped us get a good set-up for internet.  There was another employee who could have waited on us but instead we waited a good 40 minutes for Stephanie to finish with the customer that got there first and of course was a long drawn out process.  But when it was finally our turn, we did what needed to be done with Stephanie to get the internet changed because we're leaving and then we gave her a little gift to thank her for making our internet so good and easy for us - she really has no idea how much she helped us and the little gift wasn't even close to measuring up to that but at least we showed our appreciation in a little way.

It was probably around 6:30 as we made our way across town to the tram stop.  We were surprised at how alive the streets had become in the evening!  Obviously that is the hour that people start going out!

On Tuesday, June 12 we flew from Alicante to Basel.  As the plane flew out of Alicante, we could see many things that we had come to know very well.  We saw and knew by name some of the beaches, we saw the harbor in El Campello, we saw the little tower that we hiked to back in the fall and we saw the cliffs where we did some of our evening walks.  It felt kind of weird to be flying away from all of those things that we had spent so much time at these last few months.

Our flights were good.  At the airport in Basel, we tried to get a taxi to take us to Andrew's place and that turned into a mini-fiasco.   The taxi drivers weren't friendly at all, and you could be talking with one taxi driver and about to agree to go with him, but if someone else walked up to the taxi and just opened the door and got in, then the taxi driver forgot all about you and took that passenger!  It happened to us and I saw it happen to someone else.  It was crazy.
